Project Overview

Hearst Corporation, a global media powerhouse with a vast portfolio of brands, approached me to revamp their email marketing strategy through custom template development. The goal was to design high-performing email templates that maintained brand consistency across their diverse verticals, while also improving engagement and click-through rates. This project required balancing creativity with technical expertise to meet the unique needs of each Hearst brand.

Approach

1. Discovery and Planning
I collaborated with key stakeholders across Hearst’s portfolio to identify their unique requirements and pain points. By conducting an in-depth analysis of past campaigns, I pinpointed opportunities for design improvement and technical optimization.

2. Modular Template Development

- I designed a library of modular components that could be easily customized and reused for different campaigns.

- I ensured flexibility for dynamic content insertion, enabling brands to personalize emails based on audience segmentation.

3. Responsive Design Implementation

- I leveraged media queries and fluid design principles to ensure emails were rendered seamlessly across all screen sizes and devices.

- I focused on lightweight, accessible coding practices to optimize load times and user experience.

4. Rigorous Testing
I used tools like Litmus and Email on Acid to test emails across 50+ email clients, ensuring consistent rendering and functionality. This included testing for dark mode compatibility and accessibility standards (e.g., proper alt text, readable contrast ratios).

Key Deliverables

Custom Email Templates: Delivered a suite of visually appealing, brand-compliant email templates for campaigns, newsletters, and transactional communications.

Style Guide: Provided a comprehensive email style guide to ensure consistent usage of templates across teams.
